I want you to have more than pictures
I'm Jenna
I want you to have something you can see, touch, and pass down.
Printed memories that remind you how this season felt, and that one day, will tell your story to the ones who come after.

If you’re anything like most of my clients, the moment you book your family session, the excitement quickly turns into how to prepare for your family session…
“Wait…what do we wear?”
“What if my kids don’t cooperate?”
“How do I make sure this actually goes well?”
Take a deep breath. You’re not alone in feeling that way.
As a Raleigh family photographer, I’ve guided hundreds of families through this process, and I can promise you this: your session doesn’t need to feel overly complicated to turn out beautifully.
In fact, with just a little preparation (and the right expectations), it can feel easy, relaxed, and even… fun.

Before we talk about outfits or logistics, let’s start here… Your session is not about perfection. It’s about connection.
Your kids don’t need to sit still the entire time. You don’t need everyone smiling perfectly at the camera. The most meaningful family portraits come from the in-between moments. The laughs, the snuggles, the way your child reaches for you without thinking.
If you can show up ready to be present instead of perfect, you’re already halfway through how to prepare for your family session.

Outfits are usually the biggest source of stress, but they don’t have to be.
Here’s the simplest way to approach it:
As part of my full service photography experience in Raleigh, I offer style guidance (and access to a curated wardrobe for certain sessions), so you’re never left guessing.
Because when you feel good in what you’re wearing, it shows in every photo.
For outdoor sessions, we typically shoot during golden hour, that soft, dreamy light right before sunset.
For studio sessions, timing is a little more flexible, but we still want to work around your child’s happiest time of day.
A well-rested, well-fed child makes a huge difference.
Pro tip:
A few helpful things to have on hand:
But beyond that, you truly do not need to bring much.
You do not need to bribe your children into smiling.
Definitely do not need to stress about perfection.
You do not need to apologize if your kids are energetic.
That’s all normal.

You don’t need to give your kids a big speech about “behaving.”
In fact, I recommend keeping it light.
Let them know:
The more relaxed you are, the more relaxed they’ll be.
As a Raleigh motherhood photographer, I’ve learned that kids don’t respond to pressure, they respond to energy. If you show up calm, they’ll follow your lead.

This is the part that matters most.
You don’t need to know how to pose. You don’t need to direct your kids. You don’t need to “get it right.”
That’s my job.
During your session, I’ll guide you naturally. I will give just enough direction to create beautiful images while still allowing your family to move and interact in a way that feels real.
Some of the best images come when you think,
“That probably didn’t work…”
And then it turns out to be your favorite.

One thing I always encourage families to think about before their session is:
Where will these photos live?
Will they hang in your living room? Be part of a gallery wall? Go into an album your kids will flip through for years?
As a fine art photographer in Raleigh, I don’t want your images to live on your phone, I want them to become part of your home. That’s why every full session includes a design and ordering appointment, where we turn your images into something tangible and lasting.
If you’re feeling nervous about being in front of the camera, I want you to hear this:
You don’t need to change anything about yourself to be worthy of being in these photos.
Your kids already see you as everything.
These photos aren’t for who you think you should be.
They’re for who you are, right now, in this season.
And one day, they’ll mean more than you can imagine.

If you’re looking for a Raleigh family photographer who will guide you through every step. From planning to final artwork, I’d love to work with you.
Full sessions are designed to be relaxed, intentional, and completely taken care of so you can focus on what matters most: your family.
Reach out to start planning your session. I’ve got you!
When your memories live where life happens, they become part of your family’s story, seen every day, touched often, and one day, passed down. They remind your children where they come from and show them how loved they’ve always been.
On your walls, in your hands, always surrounded by love
I believe your memories should live where life happens
