There are certain parts of childhood we never want our children to forget.

The way home felt. The people who loved them. And very often, the dog who followed them from room to room, waited beneath the high chair, joined every backyard adventure, and somehow found a place in nearly every family memory.

Our pets are such an important part of the family, but they are also an especially meaningful part of our children’s childhood. That is why I love when families choose to include their dogs in photographs.

Years from now, those images will hold so much more than a cute face or a wagging tail. They’ll bring back an entire season of life.

Your Pet Deserves to Be Part of the Story

For many children, a beloved dog is their first best friend.

They grow up side by side, sharing ordinary days that become precious with time. Including your pet in your family photos gives you the chance to preserve that relationship exactly as it feels right now.

During a session, we can create a mix of photographs depending on time and how everyone is feeling — your whole family together, the children with their pet, and even a portrait of your dog alone.

The goal isn’t perfect behavior. It’s an honest, beautiful memory of the family you have today, four-legged members included.

And if you’re already wondering whether your dog will actually sit still for a picture, don’t worry.

Photographing pets can feel a lot like photographing toddlers. Sometimes they’re excited, distracted, or much more interested in treats than the camera. We stay patient, keep things light, and work with their personality instead of expecting perfection.

A walk before your session can help with extra energy, and you’re always welcome to bring a favorite treat or toy that gets their attention.

Pet Portraits Beyond the Holidays

Your dog doesn’t have to wait until Christmas to be photographed.

Pets can also be included in Signature family sessions with prior approval, which gives us more time to create a complete story of your family together.

I also offer timeless Heirloom Portraits created especially for pets. These simple studio portraits focus on the little expressions and details you know by heart and can be displayed beautifully alongside your children’s heirloom portraits.
